There has been a significant rise in the price of onion in the recent days. In our country capital, New Delhi, a kg of onion is increased by ten rupees from Rs 20 to Rs 30 in the past two weeks. Sadly, this is expected to rise furthermore too.
As a step to control this increase in price, the central government has imparted an export price of 300 American Dollars per tonne of onion (which is equivalent to Rs 18000). Owing to this, export of onions cannot be possible lower than this export rate.
Speaking to one of the officials, he says that this step is taken in order to reduce the total export volume of onion and increase the supply within the country. Though the onion rates havent reached any exorbitant levels, this step of increasing the export price is a precautionary step by the central government.
Previously, during the month of September, onion price reached a peak of Rs 100 during which export price was too minimal.
To note, over 18 million tonnes of onion is getting produced in India.
