Actor Vijay writes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Actor Vijay has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi today seeking withdrawal of service tax for film industry.
Vijay, who called on Narendra Modi when he visited Tamilnadu to campaign for BJP candidates recently, urged immediate intervention by the Prime Minister to ensure service tax imposed on the film industry is withdrawn immediately so that the industry is saved.
In the recent past, film personalities from various Indian languages had submitted memorandums to the Centre seeking withdrawal of service tax.
The service tax generates good revenue for the government. It falls in List 2 of the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution of India and exclusively reserved as a revenue source for the state governments. Hence, Taxes vary from state to state. In Tamil Nadu, movies get tax exemption of 30% if only it gets `U` certificate from the Regional Censor Board.
