Browsing Centres in BSNL Service centres as an experimental measure!

Posted on: 20/Jun/2014 2:32:20 PM
BSNL has decided to start internet browsing centres in its service centres.

BSNL provides telephone, cell phone, internet services and other services.

For the benefit of people who cannot get an internet connection or the people who want an emergency need for internet connection, BSNL proposes to establish internet browsing centres.

This would be particularly helpful in suburban areas, small towns, and villages.

This facility would be introduced countrywide.

The other telecommunication service providers, the agencies which use BSNL facilities in mountainous regions, distant places, and small villages have to pay a fixed amount to the government.

This fund is to be used for setting up the BSNL browsing centres.

BSN:L browsing centres will be started in their customer service centres, offices, and exchanges.

Even though the focus is on the villages and small places, the service would be made available in cities as well if there is a good public response.

For a start, a BSNL browsing centre has been set up in Chennai flower bazaar.

2 computers are available with a provision of 2 persons using 1 system. The charges for using the internet are Rs. 30/- per hour of usage. This is slightly more than the current rate of Rs. 20/- per hour charged by the private internet service centres.

For printing, there will be an additional charge Rs. 10/- per sheet. This is lso higher as compared to Rs. 5/- charged by other service providers.

It is to be seen whether these higher charges would be a deterrent for attracting the common public.

These centres have the provision to send fax messages as well.

Depending on the positive response from the public in this Flower Bazaar Browsing Centre, more centres will be started.

It is gathered that the charges are fixed by the headquarters at Delhi.
