Posted on: 10/May/2010 2:48:45 AM

District Collector P.Umanath launched Aavin smart cards. The first recipients were novelist Vimala Ramani, businessman Balaji Raman and Dr.Veerannan at a function held at the Union office at Pachapalayam near Perur. Coimbatore District Co-operative Milk Producers Union has computerised its milk card sale operations and launched smart cards thus easing the procedural formalities for regular Aavin customers.

The recipients were chosen on the criteria of having been the consumers of Aavin milk for over 50 years. At present, milk consumers are forced to stand in long queues and fill up the requisition form furnishing name, address, kind of milk required, quantity of milk and the booth at which the milk would be procured and so on.

Henceforth, the regular Aavin customers could produce their smart cards and get their milk cards on payment of the milk cost and need not fill up the form every month. The computerised card would contain the name, address, photograph, quantity and kind of milk required. The card cost would be borne by the Union itself. Coimbatore bags the distinction of being the first Union in the State to introduce the smart card. All applicants for milk cards would be provided with the cards before June 30 free of cost and from July 1 onwards only the smart card holders would be provided with milk, a release from District Collector and Special officer of Aavin, P.Umanath said.
