5 Thermal Power Station Units closed for annual maintenance & overhaul

One unit each in North Chennai, Tuticorin, and Mettur thermal power stations has been closed for annual maintenance & overhauling.
Because of this, a shortage of 630 MW has occurred.
The 3rd unit of the 5 x 210 MW Tuticorin, 2nd unit of 3 x 210 MW at North Chennai, 1st unit of 4 x 210 MW at Mettur thermal power stations have all been stopped for annual overhauling & maintenance.
A senior official informed:
It is a routine to shut thermal power generation units for 15 to 20 days every year for renovation and repair works. As the wind power generation is now available at full potential, a decision was taken to make use of this situation to shut down these units.
Once the wind power generation season gets over, these units will be ready to commence generation in full capacity.
