Agaram Foundation on its 31st anniversary at a function organised here
on Sunday awarded scholarships to poor children some of them are from refugee
camps.
Ramanathan, who topped in his first-year B.Com exam, said: “I will use
the [scholarship] money to pay my college fee. I hope someday I will become
famous and will be able to help other students like me.”
P. Parameswari, a student of Little Flower Convent with a score of 1,034
in Class XII, was another student who got a scholarship. Both her brother and
mother are visually challenged and she supports the family. “I have joined B.A.
History and I want to become a Collector,” she said proudly.
Including the two of them, 55 students from all over the State were
awarded a scholarship amount of Rs.10, 000 each to encourage them to pursue
college education.
“Education is the only hope for so many children, but it usually stops
at the school level,” said actor Suriya, founder of Agaram Foundation. “Their
lives get clipped even before it starts. Education must turn into a people`s
movement. I would ask everyone to be a mother, father, brother or sister to at
least one poor child who needs help.”
