BSNL and has signed
MOU with TNHB to come up with key telecom solutions, including a BSNL landline
and broadband connection for the flats
constructed by the Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB). Memorandum of Understanding
signed for all future projects
Services to be tailored to the requirements of low, middle
and high income segments BSNL has also
agreed to deploy FTTH networks for up-market clientele. The facilities for the
high-end projects could be scaled up to feature centralised exchanges (Centrex)
and even Fibre-To-The-Home networks.
While landline and broadband could be the default facility in most of the upcoming TNHB projects, BSNL has also agreed to deploy FTTH networks for up-market clientele. FTTH involves deploying optic fibre -the backbone of the distance calling network –to the customer premises to provide mind-boggling Internet speeds.
FTTH can potentially deliver Internet at speeds of up to 100 Mbps, many times faster than average speeds offered to home connections now.
According to a TNHB official, some of the projects where the MoU will take effect were the housing projects at Sholinganallur, Ambattur, Mogappair and Ramapuram.
The Sholinganallur project with 908 dwelling units, the Ambattur project involving 848 units and the Ramapuram project with 144 flats are scheduled for completion this year.
Another project in Ambattur involving 608 units is scheduled for completion in 2011 will also benefit from the turn-key telecom facilities.
