Airports Authority of India arranges special prayer areas for Haj pilgrims

Airports Authority of India (AAI) will provide dedicated prayer halls for men and women at the Security Hold Area, even before the pilgrimage season began. Normally, provisions for Haj pilgrims are done after the usual rush to Mecca is into it’s first week.

In a bid to keep the large number of pilgrims from South India transiting through the city happy, AAI has rolled out the space in the old Anna International Terminal for prayer halls and waiting areas.

The AAI not only provided a shamiana in the car park for visitors to see off their loved ones, but they have also dedicated a separate elevator, entry gate (Gate No 4) and immigration counters so that they will have things smooth. In addition, the Air India flight that is commonly used has been marked a spot in bay no 30, which is closest to the exit point of the passengers from the terminals.

Members of the Haj committee have also been deputed to help pilgrims board their flights without trouble and volunteers have been stationed at key points within the airport.
