RBI Governor – is it right to treat banks as if they are one of the portfolios under the government?

The governor of the Reserve Bank of India, Mr. Raghuram Rajan has declared that the government should stop considering as if banks are under their portfolios.
RBI governor was participating in the summit meeting of FICCI. He informed that the government should treat banks as independent entities.
The governor felt there was nothing wrong about the recently introduced Jandhan scheme involving the banks in the welfare. However, government should analyse and confirm whether banks would be able to administer such schemes.
The RBI governor cautioned the banks to be extra watchful while opening Jandhan Bank accounts and the numbers cannot be considered as the basis for opening accounts.
