As the final step to provide essential medicines at affordable rates, senior official of India’s drug pricing authority has now capped the price of over 36 drugs. This includes drugs for diabetes, infections and more. These medicines now join the list of 348 drugs which are deemed essential. To note, these medicines count to over 30 per cent of overall medicines sold in the country out of which only 20 per cent are inclusive in health insurance.

Speaking at the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority, an official pointed this move as a very straight-forward action. Owing to these wide-ranging price reductions by the government, several drug makers in India and other countries are hit away. According to industry officials, prices of medicines in India are already at very low ranges compared to the rest of the world. It is to be remembered that prices of over 100 medicines were capped in India during the month of July.
