‘EVENING COLLEGES UNDER MADRAS UNIVERSITY SCANNER

G.Thiruvasagam,V-C, University of Madras, has announced that the colleges affiliated to Madras University  and those colleges  which are running  Evening colleges as the second shift would have strictly adhere to University guidelines and the norms that have been issued recently. The University according the VC has received complaints that the teaching faculty of these college do not conform to standards set by the University.

The V C has announced on Tuesday that the colleges have to get the qualifications of the faculty approved by the university .He further said that the University officials would visit the colleges affiliated to the University and check the qualifications of the faculty.  The colleges flouting University norms may face withdrawal courses by the University.

The University has reacted to a recent High Court judgment which made it clear that university must see whether colleges were employing qualified teachers.

The Vice-Chancellor said that the colleges could allow the regular teachers (working in day shift/day college) to take classes for the evening colleges. He made it clear that additional colleges would not be given any more for the affiliated colleges if they did not meet the criterion. According to him, a questionnaire format will be sent to the affiliated colleges of University of Madras seeking information about their staff working in second shift/evening sections.

For the answer paper valuation also, the Vice-Chancellor said, the colleges should send only those faculty who have prescribed qualification.
