There is a risk of the consumers of cooking gas to lose their subsidy if they have no savings account in the bank.

The central Minister for Petroleum, Mr. Dharmendra Pradahan, explained:

The government expects to prevent black marketing in cooking gas cylinder sales by implementing the policy of depositing the subsidy amount in the consumers’ savings bank accounts.

This will be effectively in action in the 1st stage in 54 districts of 11 states all over the country from 15th December.

This will be gradually extended throughout the country.

An IOC Official explained:

Cooking consumers will have to pay the full amount of Rs. 864/- while buying the new cylinder. The government will then deposit the subsidy amount of Rs. 461/- in the consumer’s savings bank account.

Consumers without Aadhar Cards or savings account must open a savings account before June next year.

Otherwise, the subsidy may not be paid by the government.
