Electricity Minister Arcot N. Veeraswami and Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam were inspecting the works of stage-3 expansion project of Mettur Thermal Power Station at Mettur on Thursday.
He was optimistic that Tamil Nadu will tide over its present power crisis soon. He said that the expansion of major thermal and other power projects that underway in the state are nearing completion. He further said that The Chief Minister was very concerned about the power crisis in the state and the Chief Minister had asked him to inspect all the ongoing projects and to make a report on their present status and completing schedule. The Minister has inspected the works on Stage III expansion project of Mettur Thermal Power Station (MTPS) for additional generation of 600 MW, here on Thursday. He expressed confidence
That after the projects are completed, the power generated will greatly minimize our dependency on unpredictable wind power. The minister said that the State is aiming to reduce its dependency on Wind power as its generating rate highly fluctuating, from 2000 MW to 1100 MW. He said that with more help from centre and private producers the situation will greatly improve.
He said the works on the expansion projects for augmented supply in Mettur, Ennore, Vallur, Kunda and Tuticorin plants would be completed by March 2011. The TNEB would soon float tenders to procure 10 lakh tonnes of coal from abroad. The Minister said that the Industries who have not erected captive power plants had been told that captive power generation as requirement is mandatory.
The Ministers, as per a report has instructed the officials of TNEB and project executors of Stage III of MTPS, BGR Energy Systems Limited, Chennai, to achieve synchronization of the new unit by March 2011 it self.
