MADRAS MEDICAL COLLEGE EXPLORING TIE UP AN US UNIVERSITY

The Madras Medical College is exploring the possibility of student, research and technology exchange programs in tie up with Oregon Health and Science University, Portland, U.S.  This is with aim to promote research and technology up gradation.  As an initial step U.S. Consul General Andrew T. Simkin and Health attaché at the U.S. Consulate Deborah Edwards paid visit to Madras Medical College and its attached General Hospital here. This was arranged by the Alumini Association of the college and their friends in the USA. Deliberation have taken place with the HODs, Principal Secretary  Health to the Government of Tamilnadu, The Dean and  senior hospital and college officials .As per the MOU of the tie up the General Hospital here will provide the clinical material, the foreign university will  provide technology input to help improve treatment modalities and in research areas.

M.K. Ranganathan, founder president of Friends of USA said that the tie-up was first of its kind between government-owned hospitals in both countries. The project was Initiated by G. Viswanathan, founder-Chancellor of Vellore Institute of Technology with  the meetings in Chennai will culminate in formalizing  a MoU during the visit of US President Barack Obama according to Mr. Ranganathan.
