CHENNAI CORPORATION INITIATES CHENNAI SCHOOLS OF EXCELLENCE

Mayor M.Subramanian inaugurated Ten Chennai Schools of Excellence in a function held in Thiruvanmiyur on Saturday. The Deputy Commissioner- Education of Chennai Corporation.

M Balaji handed over the first copy of the Handbook of Chennai Schools of Excellence to the Mayor. According to the Mayor M Subramanian Two Hundred students have been selected for undergoing training to take on IIT-JEE exam. The Corporation has earmarked around Rs 2. 50 Crores to for training the eligible students, which will help them, enter into Indian Institutes of technology.

The  Schools of Excellence are Chennai Higher Secondary School, Appasamy Lane, Old Washermenpet; Chennai Girls Higher Secondary School, Madhavaram High Road, Perambur; Chennai Girls Higher Secondary School, Pulla Avenue, Shenoy Nagar; Chennai High School, V.P.Koil Street, Mylapore; Chennai Boys Higher Secondary School, Nungambakkam; Chennai Girls Higher Secondary School, Nungambakkam; Chennai Higher Secondary School, Puliyur, Kodambakkam; Chennai Boys Higher Secondary School, Saidapet; Chennai Girls Higher Secondary School, Saidapet; and Chennai Higher Secondary School, Thiruvanmiyur.

Classrooms, laboratories and libraries of the schools will receive Quality Control of India certification.

The Schools will have special admission procedure, according to which the notification for admissions to the schools for the next academic year will be made in the first week of March. The schools apart from better labs and libraries will receive necessary technological inputs for better learning. The focus education in these schools will be strengthening ethical values of all students. The number of students per class in primary sections would be 30 and it would be 40 for other classes. The students will also be exposed to various cultural, educational and literary programmes  in collaboration with  selected private schools.
