Vegetable prices come down drastically

Since there is good inflow of vegetables from other states, the prices of vegetables at Koyambedu wholesale market  have come down. A kilo of nookal, chow chow, beetroot and cabbage cost Rs 10.
 
Every day merchants bring their vegetables for sales in trucks from various places. Local traders and people buy the produces from them. For the last few months, the prices of vegetables were coming down. But the prices of vegetables were little high on auspicious days. Yesterday the prices of vegetables have come down drastically. Especially the prices of tomatoes, drumsticks and potatoes have come down.
 
V.R. Soundararajan, advisor to Koyambedu Wholesale Traders` Association said, “For the last few days, the prices of vegetables were coming down but the rate of drumstick were going up. For the last one month the prices of drumsticks was between Rs 170- to Rs 190. Last week the prices of drumsticks have come down. Now it is sold for Rs 70 per kilo. Now drumsticks are daily brought in 25 lorries from Dharapuram, Ottanchattiram, Theni and Perambalur. Because of this drumsticks are now sold for Rs 40 per kilo. Earlier the drumsticks were brought to Chennai in five lorries. Similarly tomatoes prices have also come down. Tomatoes are brought to Chennai in 55 lorries from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Yesterday the prices of tomatoes were Rs 10 per kilo. Prices of other vegetables have also come down.”
