ONLINE PAYMENT OF ELECTRICITY BILLS EXTENDED THROUGHOUT TAMILNADU: TNEB ANNOUNCEMENT

Arcot N. Veeraswamy, the Electricity Minister announced, at a function held at the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) headquarters here on Wednesday, that the facility to pay electricity bill online was extended throughout the State. C.P. Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, TANGEDCO, and P.W.C. Davidar, Principal Secretary (Energy), were present in the function. Currently the facility is available only in Chennai and Coimbatore.

The electricity bills are already accepted in 50 post offices in Chennai. The minister announced that 900 post offices throughout Tamilnadu will gradually be included in the list for accepting the electricity bills.  The Minster further said that TNEB had tied up with seven banks for payment through net banking. For payment by credit cards, the consumers have access that payment gateway of ICICI and Axis Banks. Payment by credit cards would attract 2.09 % of the bill amount as service charge. In the case of debit cards, flat rate of Rs.5 (up to power bill of Rs.500) and Rs.10 (exceeding Rs.500) would be charged. 

Electricity Minister Arcot N. Veeraswami also inaugurated the Electronic Clearing Service (ECS) facility for High Tension consumers.
