No power cut in Tamil Nadu for the next 15 days

State-owned thermal plants in Mettur, North Chennai, Kudankulam nuclear power and a private power plant in Tuticorin can generate 4,770 megawatt. Daily requirement of power for Tamil Nadu is 13,000 megawatts. Now the power production is only 11,000 megawatts. In order to manage the shortage, the Electricity Board is resorting to unannounced power cuts. Due to these power cuts, there is shortfall in the production of small scale industries. 
 
At this juncture, the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board has unofficially has passed orders to all electrical departments of Tamil Nadu not to have power cuts for the next 15 days including maintenance cuts. It is understood that the reason for this is that Jayalalithaa may anytime be sworn in as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
