The world renowned cancer  expert was delivering the 19th Dr. Y. Nayudamma Memorial Lecture after receiving Dr.Nayudamma Award.

Seven danger signs of cancer:

She listed some sure-fire sinister signs of cancer: a lump or thickened blob in any part of the body, especially, breast; a sore or wound that never heals; abnormal discharge or bleeding; constant indigestion or difficulty swallowing; persistent cough or hoarseness; change in bowel habits; and change in a mole or wart.

Emerging Trend:

Comprehensive cancer care, Dr. Shanta said, was the emerging trend on the cancer horizon, and it involved total care from the time of diagnosis, through treatment, follow-up, rehabilitation and many times palliative care.

The multi-disciplinary approach from the stage of diagnosis, treatment planning and actual treatment was the key to success.

“Today`s focus is care beyond cure and on to healing,” she noted and described cancer care as patient-focussed.
