The Chennai district election officer and corporation commissioner D Karthikeyan at a separate media briefing said a 24-hour complaint cell had been set in Ripon Buildings.

There would be two helplines 1800-425-2010/1800-425-2011 for the public and members of political parties could report violations of the model code of conduct. Video surveillance teams and flying squads have been set up in each of the constituency. 

Meanwhile, Chennai police commissioner T Rajendran said `Nearly one third of the polling booths in the city are most critical`. If one goes by the police assessment, 1,100 booths are considered most critical` in the 16 assembly constituencies that will go to polls on April 14`.

"We are working out detailed security arrangements for these booths," he added.
