810 MW of power generation has been affected due to some failure In North Chennai Thermal Power Station.
3 Power generation Units of 210 MW each are located in the 1st phase of the plan in Athipattu, in Thiruvallur District. The 2nd phase of the power station is of 2 units of 600 MW each.
The 3rd unit of the 1st phase, of 210 MW generating capacity had to be shut down due to some problems in its boiler and thus, 210 MW power generation got affected. This problem was rectified and power generation resumed on 19th October. However, another fault occurred in the fuel-burning pipeline and the unit had to be shut down.
With the generation of the 1st Unit of 600 MW of the 2nd phase already affected, a shortage of 600 MW power generations was already there. With the successive failure of the 3rd unit of 210 MW in the 1st phase, the shortage has now increased to 810 MW.
Repair works have been taken up in full swing. The higher officials of the North Chennai Power Station informed that generation would resume soon.
