Unlike in the past, the state of Tamil Nadu has been receiving heavy showers all over. Between October and December, in general, during the northeast monsoon season, the state receives 440 mm rainfall every year. However, in the present year, the northeast monsoon began by the end of October, on 28th of the month to be precise. Since then, rainfall of 480mm was recorded. This is 40mm higher than conventional amount.
Rainfall in Chennai
In Chennai, there will be 790mm rainfall during these three months. Between 1st of October and 24th of November, in these 55 days, there has to be 580 mm rainfall. This year, there is 1140mm rainfall. This is 350mm higher than the usual level. This is double the amount of rainfall that is usually received in these 55 days.
Rainfall in Thiruvalluur
In Thiruvallur district, there will be 590 mm rainfall in these three months. There has to be 430mm rainfall as in convention. However, as of the recordings until yesterday, rainfall of 1060mm is received in this district. This is 470mm higher than usual level.
Rainfall in Kanchipuram
There will be 640mm rainfall in Kanchipuram district. In these 55 days, there will be 470mm rainfall. But until 24th of November, there was 1190 mm rainfall. This is 550mm higher than the usual level.
On the basis of total number of monsoon days, there are 37 days left for the season to end. If rainfall continues in these days, the total level of rainfall received this year will further increase.
