State Highways Department widen the road leading to MRTS Velacherry station

Though there is ample space for widening the road and a footpath the service road branching off Velacherry Main Road and leading to the MRTS Velacherry Railway Station is becoming narrower by the day. Commercial establishments are coming up on the margins of the service road and the railway station is attracting a large number of commuters. The road is this crowded with vehicles making passage difficult for pedestrians.
After lots of hue and cries over this issue by the localities, State Highways Department is widening their road for a stretch of 600 meters. A stormwater drain was also being constructed. The work`s estimated cost was Rs. 5.5 crore
Officials said, We are constructing a stormwater drain on the MRTS station side with a four-meter wide pavement on top of it. Since thousands of commuters use the stretch regularly and with requests for widening, we initiated the work.
