A study conducted by a US neuroscientist shows that dogs show more affection to humans that cats. According to the research, a dog can love a human five times more than cats. The study was conducted as part of an upcoming BBC documentary.

Saliva samples from 10 cats and 10 dogs were taken. After this, the animals had a 10 minute playtime sessions with their owners. After the session, another saliva sample was taken. The samples were tested for a love or bonding hormone called oxytocin.

According to the results, oxytocin in dogs increased by 57.2 per cent when compared to 12 per cent in cats. Speaking about this, the neuroscientists said, I was really surprised to discover that dogs produced such high levels of oxytocin the dog level of 57.2 per cent is a very powerful response.

The documentary Cats vs. Dogs will air on BBC on February 4.
