Monday night and Tuesday morning saw heavy rain in Chennai and parts of northern Tamil Nadu. The low pressure over the Bay of Bengal resulted in the temperature going below 30 degrees Celsius, a welcome change from the sweltering summer heat.
Between 8.30 am on Monday and 8.30 am on Tuesday, a total of 67 mm of rain was recorded by the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai. This is the highest rainfall received on a single day in the month of May since 2010, when it rained 109.9mm on May 20. Officials have said, We can expect more rain on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Several districts in the region received good rainfall, the highest being in Pamban with 79.6 mm. Nagapattinam recorded 65mm.
