In an unprecedented record over the last 10 years, it has rained 117 mm in the Chennai in the last 24 hours (as recorded in Meenambakkam).
It must be mentioned here that the public has not yet forgotten the incessant heavy rains experienced during last November-December. Now, it seems another session of incessant and heavy rains is set to affect Chennai.
Due to the nonstop heavy rains since yesterday, most parts of Chennai is inundated . Though it is not as heavy as last November-December, the normal routine life of the city residents has been affected.
A rainfall of 117 mm has been recorded in Chennai Meenambakkam from yesterday (Tuesday, 17th May) 8.30 AM till 8.30 AM today This is the highest recorded in the last 10 year period.
There was a rainfall of 71 mm on Monday alone. It rained 66 mm in just 12 hours.
An intensified depression zone has stabilised in the Bay of Bengal in the West/Northwest direction 70 km from Chennai. This has intensified the rain further.
It is expected that the rains will; continue for the next 2 days in Chennai. This may further disturb the routine lie of the public.
The public is panicking about the probability in case the rain continues further and the reservoirs get filled up leading to flooding.
