Chennai-Gummidipundi section: Suburban train derails in Chennai

A Beach-Sulurpetta EMU derailed near Ponneri railway station on Thursday (19th May)evening. Hence, the suburban trains on the Chennai-Gummidipoondi sector and six express trains were delayed.
No one was injured in the accident that happened at 5.05 PM.
The line was restored at 6.36 PM.
One pair of wheels of the third coach from the rear of the Beach-Sulurpetta suburban train (No.42801) derailed at Ponneri Railway Station.
It was a minor accident. There was not much damage to the trackas the train was running slowly.
The accident affected departures of six express trains, including Chennai-Delhi Grand Trunk Express, Chennai Egmore-Kakinada Circar Express and Chennai-Mumbai Shalimar. The express trains were delayed for almost an hour.
