Elections at Aravakurichi and Thanjavur assembly constituencies-new dates announced

The State Assembly elections were held in Tamil Nadu on 16th of this month. Since there was heavy money transactions during the electoral period, the elections at Aravakurichi and Thanjavur assembly constituencies were cancelled by Election Commission. The Election Commission had announced that the elections will be held on 23rd May in these two constituencies. The votes for the other 232 constituencies were counted and the results were announced.  
 
A PIL seeking to cancellation of elections to Aravakurichi and Thanjavur assembly constituencies, scheduled for May 23, was filed before the Madurai Bench of the Madras High court.
 
During the hearing of a plea to postpone the polling further to ensure fair play, the EC informed the Madras High Court that it would put off the polling by three weeks and announce the new date in consultation with the other candidates. The judges  adjourned the case to June for further hearing.
 
At this juncture, Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhani has announced that  the elections for  Aravakurichi and Thanjavur assembly constituencies will be held on 3rd June. The election commission has also mentioned that all the works related to elections will be completed on 20th June. All these developments have been informed to the High Court.
