It is expected that the southwest monsoon rain for the 2016 season will start from June.
About this, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University’s Climate Research Centre has released some report containing warning details.
The report was released by the director of the Directorate of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University of Crop Management, C Jayanthi, the head, and the professor of the climate research centre S Panneerselvam.
They informed the press reporters that a software Rainman was obtained from Australia. This is used for the analysis regarding the southwest monsoon from the data, including the surface temperature of the Pacific Ocean near the equator and the air pressure index of the South Zone during the months of March and April.
As per the analysis, 28 districts in the state of Tamil Nadu excluding the districts of Coimbatore, Ramanathapuram, Nagapattinam, and Thiruvrur will receive average rains during the southwest monsoon season. The 4 districts - Coimbatore, Ramanathapuram, Nagapattinam, and Thiruvrur – will receive less than average southwest monsoon rain.
Nilgiris district will receive the maximum rainfall of 691 mm. The other districts – Kanyakumari (455 mm), Vellore (438 mm), Chennai (428 mm), Kanchipuram and Salem (420 mm), and Thiruvallur (418 mm). The district of Tuticorin will receive the minimum rainfall of 77 mm.
Utilising this southwest monsoon rains, the districts of Chennai, Madurai, Thanjai, Dindigul, Nagai, Thoruvarur, Virudhunagar, Erode, Karur, Kovai, Tirupur, Theni, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli, and Tuticorin should make arrangements for water collection and the other districts should prioritise on agriculture.
As regards Coimbatore district, only the Northeast Season gives more rainfall and the benefits. Generally, the rain from the southwest monsoon is less.
However, there are many reasons for the shortage of summer rainfall. In Coimbatore, the summer was more severe as compared to previous years. Environmental pollution is another major reason.
