Koyambedu wholesale market gets flowers in 10 lorries from Periyapalayam, Aarani, Vellore, Thirvannamalai, Dinidgul, Hosur, and Ooty.
Presently, 5 more lorries containing flowers have reached Koyambedu market. Further, flowers have started coming from other states like Andhra and Karnataka.So, there is a steep fall in the prices of flowers.
Last week, Kanakambaram was sold at Rs. 700/- per kg. Now, it is sold at Rs. 400/- per kg.Mullai sold at Rs. 250/- per kg and has now come down to Rs. 140/- per kg.
Jasmine (Malligai) sold at Rs. 320/- and has come down to Rs. 120/- per kg. Samanthi sold at Rs. 255/- per kg and has come down to Rs. 120/- per kg.
Rose sold at Rs. 120/- per kg and has come down to Rs. 80/- per kg. Arali sold at Rs. 150.- per kg and has come down to Rs. 100/- per kg.
Koyambedu traders explained that due to the excess quantity of flowers arriving in the last few days, the prices of flowers came down rather steeply. The retail traders bought large quantities and they are also selling at very low prices.
