According to recent reports, Amazon India has surpassed e-tailer Flipkart in terms of the total traffic received in its site in both computers as well as mobile phones.
The website traffic was observed between the period November 2015 and May 2016. The analysis result however does not hint any detail about the total traffic received in mobile and PC separately. The monthly increase in traffic as compared to Flipkart was 33 percent to 62 percent. Amazon has grabbed over 180 million monthly users which is way far ahead of Flipkart that has 120 million.
Coming on to mobile app users, there are more number of downloads and usage being done on Flipkart. In the month of June, Amazon stood ahead of Flipkart on Flipkart in app ranking. These rankings on playstore are given on the basis of number of downloads and other attributes like ratings given to the app, total back links, uninstallations done, and how often users interact with the app.
Flipkart could not be in the top ten list of Google Playstore ranking, while Amazon rose to higher positions. There is none of these retailers in the top ten ranking in June month. Amazon India acquired position 14 and Flipkart was on 16th position.
Flipkart reports say that it had thrived in having 50 million installs on Google Playstore in the month of February. There are between 10 and 50 million downloads for Amazon’s app, on the other hand.
Amazon claims its site to be the most visited of all e-commerce sites in December. This seems to be reported on the basis of PC traffic. In addition to have got increase in leads, there is also substantial growth in mobile web. The reason for the same may be that Flipkart is stepping back from web and having its focus gelled on mobile app. On the other hand, Myntra has got itself ejected from the web last year. Flipkart did the same, claiming that about 70 percent of traffic it receives is from mobile phones. Myntra however got back to the web recently, confessing that its move to step back had got failed.
One more reason for the giant leap in growth with Amazon may be that it has received billions of dollars investment in the Indian market which is being funded by its parent company. Flipkart strives to raise funds. Amazon made announcement that it has got $3 billion funds for Indian market.
Flipkart, though being a leader in the industry, is being challenged by Amazon. Amazon works with full vigor with strong investor backing. Amazon has the Indian market very important to it, says Pragya Singh, the VP, retail management consulting firm Technopak Advisors.
