Devotees formed human chain and participated in road protest against the cutting old trees at the Tiruvannamalai Girivalam Path. Girivalam Path expansion project that proposes to expand the Tiruvannamalai Girivalam Path by 7 to 10 meters would commence soon.

Tiruvannamalai Girivalam is a famous incident. Every month the numbers of devotees who go there are increasing. Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa announced that the pathway (Girivalam route) around Tiruvannamalai Hill would be given a Rs 65-crore face-lift. In the first phase, the old trees are being cut.

Social activists and devotes are vehemently condemning the cutting of trees. They are mentioning that by cutting the trees, the warmth in the Tiruvannamalai hills will increase. Hence they have demanded that the Girivalam Path expansion project to be done without cutting the trees.

They have also mentioned that by cutting down the trees, devotees who are coming in lrage numbers will become less.

Hearing the plea of the people, Collector A. Gnanasekaran has ordered the Highways Department to stop cutting the trees until he inspects the spot.
