For the first ever time in Tamil Nadu, here comes biometric attendance system to record students’ attendance. A government school in Perambalur district has taken this initiative. It is to be noted that this system is already prevalent for the teachers.
Perambalur district already has e-governance scheme and hence it stands as the first district to have biometric attendance system for government school teachers. This was introduced on 12th January. Accordingly, 85 government and SC welfare matric and higher secondary schools, 38 government high schools, 10 government higher secondary schools and 1 SC welfare higher secondary school and 1 SC welfare high school accounting to 50 schools have implemented this school.
Staff from the national information centre had trained the teaching staff members in schools to operate this system. With this, Permabalur district becomes the first to have such biometric attendance system for school children.
This is initially introduced in Kurumbalur government high school. It is now widened to eight new schools including Thambiranpatti, Murugankudi, and Varagoor government high school that have lesser than 100 students; Kaadoor, Cuddalore, Vadakkumadhavi government high school that have lesser than 200 students; Thangapuram Perali government high school that has lesser than 300 students accounting to 8 schools on the whole. Very soon, all government schools will introduce this biometric attendance system.
Speaking about this, the district primary education officer Munusami stated that schools in Perambalur have started using biometric attendance register to register student attendance as the next level after introducing the same system for teachers. Perambalur district stands as pioneer in doing this. Teachers, principal and the entire school administration can now keep track of student attendance with the reaching time henceforth. The students will have to register thumb fingerprint in the machine. Further, it will also be of help in knowing absentees and take necessary action and advice children accordingly.
