Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has ordered that the Medical Insurance Scheme for the government employees must be implemented for the period from 1st July 2016 till 30th June, 2020.
The 4-year period between 2012 and 2016, the medical insurance plan covered by the United India Insurance for the state government employees, came to an end on 30th June, 2016.
So, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has ordered an extension of another 4 years from 1st July for the medical insurance scheme for the state government employees with some additional benefits.
Accordingly, based on the Open Contract Points, the state government has invited Open Contract Points from the Insurance companies and then selected United India Insurance after it accepted the proposed Open Contract Points.
Based on this, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has ordered an extension of the
Medical Insurance coverage from 1st July 21016 till 30th June 2020 to be implemented with United India Insurance.
The new insurance scheme has some additional benefits for the state government employees as compared to the prevailing scheme.
As per the new scheme, the amount allotted for the family of the government employee has been fixed at Rs. 4 Lakhs for 4 years. For some special treatments such as cancer or organ transplant, the financial assistance has been increased to Rs. 7.5 Lakhs.
The differently-abled dependents (40 percent deficiency), who are dependent on the government, can get treatment without any age limits. If the government employee had some emergency medical treatment due to accidents or other reasons in hospitals not approved by the government, he/she can still claim medical reimbursement .
Under this revised medical insurance coverage, employees of government departments, local government establishments, public sector undertakings, legal establishments, and employees of state universities can get the benefits.
The state government employees need to pay a monthly subscription of Rs. 180/- to be covered by this medical insurance scheme. The government will pay the Insurance company a sum of Rs. 17.90 Crores every year.
About 10.22 Lakhs government employees are expected to benefit from this revised and extended medical insurance coverage.
