Majority of students who have completed 12th standard did not show keen interest in joining engineering courses.
There were 185296 lakh seats in the Tamil Nadu engineering colleges. Out of 58175 candidates called for counselling, only 40524 candidates have received their admission letters. There is only 10 days more remaining for counselling to close. 17444 did not turn up for counselling. Though 207 candidates participated in the counselling, they avoided selecting their courses.
At a time when there is only 10 days remaining for the general category counselling, there are 1,41,717 vacancies in self financing engineering colleges, 2824 vacancies in the Anna University affiliated colleges and 231 vacancies in the government and government aided colleges. It has been estimated that only 40000 seats will be filled up in these 10 days.
On 23rd and 24th July, the counselling will be done for Plus 2 vocational training candidates and supplementary plus 2 candidates. The maximum seats which will be filled in these counselling will be approximately 5000. After the counselling is over, there will be 1 lakh B.E vacant seats.
