Th Hindus regard the water of the river Ganges as holy. The Post Offices started selling Ganges water commenced yesterday.
News has been gathered that the sales were a roaring success on the 1st day.
Ganges water is obtained from 2 places – Rishikesh and Gangotri.
The people from South India need to undertake a very long and strenuous journey for this.
In order to answer this requirement, the Post Offices have started selling Ganges Water. Thie event was inaugurated recently in Patna by the central ministers Ravishankar Prasad and Manoj Sinha.
The Post Office Employees in Uttarakhand undertake the task of filling the Ganges water in bottles.
Ganges water from Rishikesh is sold at Rs. 15/- for 200 ml. Ganges water from Gangotri is sold at Rs. 35/- for 200 ml.
In Tamil Nadu, in the 1st phase of this activity, 7 Post Offices in Trichy, Tanjore, Madurai, Salem, Coimbatore, Dharmapuri, Erode Head Post Offices. In Chennai, sales of Ganges water commenced at Anna Salai Post Office and George Town and a few other places. However, the stock got sold off within a few minutes. As per the report received from the Chennai Region Postal Department Head, Mr. Mervyn Alexander.
The public has reacted to this new facility that taking bath in the holy river Ganges has been one of the yearning traditions. However, not everyone can afford going there. So, this is a welcome measure to bring Ganges water to reach the common public in distant places.
