The MPs Committee, which reviewed the salary of the Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha Members of Parliament (MPs), had recommended the doubling of salary.
The cabinet ministry has now approved this recommendation and forwarded it to the cabinet ministry headed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In the next phase, once the Prime Minister approves this, Parliament’s approval will be obtained in the monsoon session.
The highlights of the committee’s recommendation:
- Monthly Salary of MPs will increase from Rs. 50000.- to Rs. 1 Lakh.
- The travelling expense and associated other expenses given from the MPs will also be doubled and will be Rs. 90000/-.
- The expenses for running the office, the salary for the office employees will also get doubled.
- The furniture procurement expenses for the government residence will also be doubled and will be Rs. 1 Lakh.
- Wi-Fi facility for Rs. 1700/- per month will be given.
- The pension for ex-MPs will increase from Rs. 20000/- to Rs. 35000/-.
