Finance Minister O.Panneerselvam filed the revised budget for the financial year 2016-17. Below are the notable features of the budget
- Overall estimate of the revised budget is Rs 1,48,175.09 crore
- Rs 125 crore will be sanctioned towards buying 2000 new government buses
- A sum of Rs 2,52,431 crore will be allotted for overall debts in Tamil Nadu
- Rs 13,856 crore will be allotted towards electricity subsidy
- Rs 1295.08 crore will be allotted towards government transportation department
- Necessary steps will be taken to set up Lokayukta
- Physically challenged will be given with 1000 petrol scooters
- Rs 396.74 crore and Rs 105.98 crore towards physically challenged and SriLankan refugees
- Rs 703.16 crore allotment towards 8 grams of gold for Thaali which was earlier 4 grams
- The scholarship for Islamic Ulama will be raised from Rs 1000 to Rs 1500
- A group of higher officials will be appointed to research and implement recommendations by 7th pay commission.
Local election in October
Local elections fall to be in October in Tamil Nadu.
- There is a loss of Rs 1607 crore due to 100 units of free electricity every year
- Rs 183.24 crore allotment for conducting local elections
- Rs 4,512.32 crore allotment towards social welfare
- Loss of Rs 6,636.08 because of shutting 500 TASMAC
- Relief fund for fishermen for the banned period in fishing is increased from Rs 4000 to Rs 5000
- From this financial year, the commercial tax will be Rs 67,629.45 crore
- 2 lakh youngsters will receive skill development training in the next one year
- Employment exchange offices will function as employment guidance centre
- Rs 9.28 crore allotment towards Chief Minister’s insurance scheme
- Rs 2000 crore allotment towards vision scheme
- Special care will be taken towards the vision plan by the Tamil Nadu government
- Rs 300 crore allotment for betterment of roads. This will be done with the help of NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development)
- Vaigai and Noyyal rivers will be dredged at a cost of Rs 24.58 crore
- Tree plantation along banks of rivers at a cost of Rs 52.64 crore
- Free patta for lands at a cost of Rs 3.50 lakh in the next one year
- 2673 houses for policemen will be constructed at a cost of Rs 422 crore
- The shortfall in revenue in Tamil Nadu is Rs 15,854.47 crore and the overall financial shortfall is Rs 40533.84 crore
- 10 lakh houses to the poor in the following 5 years
- 20,000 houses with solar electricity in the next one year at the cost of Rs 420 crore
- Students will be given with free laptops at a cost of Rs 5.35 lakh.
