The Tamil Nadu government has sent orders to the Anna Library that it has to be handed over to private party. This library is touted as the second largest in the world. If this is not maintained well, it will be handed over to private party, said High Court order.
Retired professor Manonmaniyam had filed a petition that the Anna Centenary library is not being well maintained in the past few years. The case came for hearing at the Chennai High Court recently. P.D Asha and Sundar were appointed for inspecting the library and submit report on maintenance level at the library, and they did the same too. The high court then ordered to rectify all flaws mentioned in the report.
This case yet again came for hearing before Sanjay Kishan Goul and Judge R. Mahadevvan. Senior lawyer P. Wilson argued on behalf of the petitioner. He claimed that the library is not being properly maintained in spite of several orders sent.
The lawyer who argued on behalf of the government S.D.S. Moorthy said that all these issues will be rectified before 31st of August. Following this, the judge postponed the hearing for 31st August. All flaws and complaints about the library need to be met within this time period. If it is not done so, the high court will form a private party to maintain the library. This private party will henceforth maintain the library and the needed funding will be taken care of by the Tamil Nadu government.
