The Chennai corporation has plans to start an exclusive website for Amma Weekly Market for the benefit of the traders and the public.
On behalf of the Chennai Corporation, Amma Weekly Markets are scheduled to be opened in 7 places including the Chief Minister’s constituency R.K Nagar in Chennai.
More than 500 items will be sold by 25 government departments.
The list of items to be sold by the different government departments was finalised during a recent meeting headed by the mayor Saidai Duraiswamy. All department officials participated.
Following this, Chennai Corporation has planned to open an exclusive website for Amma Weekly Market.
The corporation officials explained that there is a fair degree of awareness about Amma Weekly Market among the producers and traders. The public has also shown keen interest.
The exclusive website will furnish data like the items to be sold, the department to buy these items, the contact numbers, and the procedure for selling for the benefit of the traders. The data like the departments and the products sold and the dates and places of Amma Weekly Market for the benefit of the public.
Discussions are under way with the Chennai Corporation’s Electronics department regarding the setting up of the exclusive website for Amma Weekly Market.
The Chennai Corporation has already advised the various government departments to set up a separate service centre and the contact number for the same.
Banks have also shown keen interest to participate in the Amma Weekly Market. The public and private sector banks have asked to set up their stalls in Amma weekly Market to offer financial and loan assistance to entrepreneurs to set up and sell their products. This issue is also being discussed.
Many multi-national corporations and some major companies in India have also approached the Chennai Corporation to set up their stalls offering discounts of up to 50 percent. Discussions are held on this issue as well.
