Velankanni feast begins today

The 11-day annual feast of Our Lady of Health, popularly called ‘Annai Velankanni Matha` and the ‘Lourdes of the East`, began at the Shrine Basilica in Velankanni on Monday evening with a huge procession and hoisting of the holy flag
The festival concludes on September 8, the Birthday of the Lady of Good Health. Bishop of Thanjavur hoists the flag.
Procession of the Lady of Good Health will take place in the evenings. Lakhs of devotees throng the Vailankanni shrine during festival days (August 29-September 8) to thank the Lady of Good Health for making their dreams come true. This year, a large number of devotees have undertaken padayatra from various parts of the state.
TNSTC has arranged for special buses from Madurai, Karur, Tiruchy, Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, Mayiladuthurai, Karaikal, Nagapattinam, Chidambaram and the Union Territory of Puducherry.
SETC has arranged for special buses from Chennai. Southern Railway is operating special trains from Mumbai, Vasco-da-gama and Chennai.
