New Suburban Bus Terminus in Chennai - in Kilambakkam at 88 acres

A new bus terminus is set up in Chennai in the village of Kilambakkam near Vandalur. The revenue Department has handed over the place to the CMDA (Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority.

As heavy traffic congestions have been regular in the current bus terminus at Koyambedu, Tamil Nadu government has announced that the new bus terminus station would be set up in Kanchipuram District, Chingleput Circle, in Vandalur section.

Earlier, 3 locations were selected for setting up the new bus terminus. However, the farmers from these areas protested during the opinion-seeking meeting session. Following this, the location in Kilambakkam Village in Chingleput District, covering an area 35 acres was selected. 

However, as there were court proceedings pertaining to this land, a land located opposite the Vandalur Zoological Park, categorized Kappukkaadugal (Protected forests) was taken up and an external audit was done on behalf of CMDA.

As it could not be possible to set up the bus terminus in these 3 places, The Chief Minister Jayalalithaa announced in the Legislative Assembly that the new Suburban Bus terminus would be set up under the Guduvancheri local administration.

Consequently, it was decided that the new bus station would be set up in the Nandhivaram where the lands owned by the Nandheeswarar Temple and the nearby unoccupied and unclaimed lands covering 60 acres.in the Guduvancheri Locality.

Meanwhile, instead of Guduvancheri, the location in Oorappakkam administration, Kilambakkam village was decided to set up the new bus terminus.

However, the land has encountered several legal problems and proceedings and only recently, the judgement was accorded in favour of the government. Only then, a decision was taken to set up the new bus terminus here. A government order in this regard was released on 7th September.

After the above decision, the Chingleput Taluk Officer Mathivadhani handed over the land of 88 acres officially to the CMDA authorities.

Chingleput Revenue Taluk Officer Panneerselvam, CMDA Officer Shanmugavel,and other staff have started working on leveling this are using the JCP equipment.
