Tatkal processing in Regional Passport Office only

Applicants for passports under the tatkal category have to file applications only in the Regional Passport Office, Rayala Towers, Anna Salai.
Since Aug. 17, tatkal applications are not being accepted in the three passport seva Kendras (PSK) in the city.
According to Regional Passport Officer K. Balamurugan, the new system has been introduced mainly to decongest the PSKs. He said: The verification of various documents takes a lot of time, and in the case of tatkal applications, additional documents need to be verified. This resulted in congestion in the PSKs. Hence it was decided to shift the tatkal application submission to the main office on Anna Salai.Those whose applications are rejected under the tatkal mode can apply with the same application under normal mode in the PSK in Nelson Manickam Road between 2 p.m and 4 p.m on all days except Monday without obtaining appointment. An online form filling center has been opened in the Rayala Towers office to help the common man fill passport application forms at a cost of Rs. 155 per application. It is proposed to set up such enters in all Taluk offices in Tamilnadu. These centers will be operated with the help of Tamilnadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation.
