The central ministry has given its nod to set up the country’s very first Medical Park. This is likely to be constructed in Chengalpet, next to Chennai. This move is made as a move to encourage manufacturing technically advanced medical equipment within our own nation.

HLL Lifecare Limited, a healthcare company is set to set up this park in a vast area of 300 acres. The approval for this was given in the central ministry headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. HLL Lifecare functioning under the health ministry has taken this 330.10 acre land for lease to set up the park. Nearly 50 percent of the investment needed for the project will be made by HLL itself. A press release from the central ministry states that companies manufacturing medical equipment can set their factories in the park.

This medical park is first of its kind in entire India. Here, high end medical equipment can be manufactured in our own country. This will result in lesser manufacturing cost thus enabling cheaper healthcare services to patients. In particular, services related to detecting diseases will reach wider patients.

This park will also encourage Make in India movement and give rise to more employment opportunities.
