Cancellations of Local body elections to continue, HC

The Chennai high court has announced that cancellation of local body elections in Tamil Nadu as ordered by the judge will continue on. The hearing of this case is postponed to 18th of this month.
Opposing the orders by individual judge who ordered cancellation of local body elections, a case was filed on behalf of the state election commission. This was insisted to be consider as an emergency case. Following this, the case came for hearing today, Thursday in the noon.
During the hearing, it was affirmed that the cancellation will continue. Soon after the orders were passed to cancel the election, the state election commission had issued a GO in which it was stated that the election duties are being paused.
As the election procedures are hindered, it cannot be continued now. Hence, the state election commission will have to make a new announcement.
Furthermore, a case was filed on behalf of DMK party that electronic voting machines need to be used for these local body elections, officials from other state need to be deployed to carry out the election procedures, etc. The hearing for this case is postponed to 18th of this month.
