Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan to issue smart cards to school children

Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) is a scheme which was launched in March, 2009 with the objective to enhance access to secondary education and to improve its quality. The implementation of the scheme started from 2009-10.
Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) state directorate plans to introduce the new e-governance platform Shaala Darpan on a pilot basis in 44 model schools in the educationally backward districts. Under this scheme, bio-metric attendance system will be introduced in these schools. Each student will also be given smart cards. Parents will get SMS alert after their wards swiped their cards for attendance, Parents will receive six different types of information through SMS to monitor their children`s academic performance.
