Cyclone Warning Division said Kyant will not hit the coast and hence there will be heavy rainfall during Deepavali in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Odisha States.

Every year in Tamil Nadu, the south west monsoon will withdraw on 20th October and north east monsoon will set in. But this time there is a delay in the north east monsoon because of the cyclonic storm Kyant over east-central Bay of Bengal.

The storm over the central Bay of Bengal lay centered 570 km east-southeast of Visakhapatnam.

Meteorological Department has mentioned: Kyant is expected to fade into a deep depression on October 29. Winds reaching speeds gusting to 65 kmph are very likely to prevail. A cyclone making a landfall usually wreaks havoc and causes damage to life and property. Light to moderate rainfall is likely at many places over South Odisha and north coastal Andhra Pradesh from 27th. Heavy rainfall is expected in north coastal Tamil Nadu from 27th to 31st.

Chennai Meteorological Department said: Commencement of northeast monsoon rains over the southern parts of the country is likely around October 30.Because of this a wet Diwali is on the cards.

The Met department asked the Harbour authorities to replace the present distant warning signal number two with three at Chennai, Kattupally, Cuddalore and Nagapattinam ports.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea off coast from October 27.
