How is the northeast monsoon rain going to be?

No need to fear for rain, says Pradeep John, the weatherman of Tamil Nadu.

It is tough to predict the nature of rain showers for this year. The northeast monsoon rain will prevail between October and December this year. The low pressure during this period will be the base for predicting levels of rainfall. As of now, storm formation is likely in November. We need to carefully observe this.

The storm in South China Sea is likely to have an impact on Bay of Bengal. In case if this gets strengthened and its impact is too noticeable, the coastal districts will be prone to rain showers. However, at this point of time, it is difficult for us to say whether the rain shower will turn too severe like last year.

If the temperature on Pacific Ocean is 2cm higher than usual level, it is called El Nino and if the same is low by 2cm, it is called La Nino. If the same is the centre of temperature, it is called ENSO. This is prone to changes though. As of now, it is neutral and hence, northeast monsoon of 44cm is expected.
