Chennai Metro Rail Limited, CMRL, is gearing up to conduct trial runs in the stretch in January next year with all electrical and electronic systems in place. At present, trains are being tested on the 9km line in manual mode as signal systems are not entirely functional. Signal systems are being installed between Shenoy Nagar and Nehru Park, which is part of corridor 2 of phase-1 comprising seven stations.

Speaking about this, an official said, The installation of signal systems has begun and we are looking at getting it in place before the end of this year. A series of final inspections by officials of the Research Design and Standards Organisation and the commissioner of Metro Rail Safety may begin a month before the lines open to public. With the underground stretches, we do not know what issues may arise during inspections. So, we are conducting internal trial runs before official inspections.
