The Chennai suburban train network has been a great help for commuters in light of city bus services being stopped for a second day in a row yesterday. Those wanting to get a final glimpse of Late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa used the service. Most of the roads were deserted barring a few private vehicles.

Visitors to Rajaji Hall, where Ms. Jayalalithaa’s body was placed before the funeral, walked till there or took the trains. The roads leading to Rajaji Hall in Anna Salami were blocked in various locations. Very few auto rickshaws plied on the roads.

The MRTS stations in Chindatripet and Chepauk, the ones near Rajaji Hall, saw long queues near their ticket counters. The Southern Railways operated train services from Chengalpattu and Tambaram to Chennai Beach.
